Business representatives, clinicians and researchers from the region’s medical and healthcare technology sectors will be gathered in Birmingham tomorrow (8th January) to discover which of them has won one of a clutch of prestigious awards.

The annual Medilink West Midlands Medical and Healthcare Business Awards is the premier event in the region's healthcare technology calendar, bringing together leading organisations from across the sector.

The awards dinner will be held on Thursday 8th January at Bank, a chic bar and restaurant situated within the cosmopolitan surroundings of Brindley Place, Birmingham, bringing together companies, clinicians and academics to hear the announcement of the winning organisations and to enjoy an evening of networking – with a twist. Delegates will get the opportunity to learn how to ‘shake and stir’ with expert cocktail makers in a mixology masterclass, before the awards ceremony takes place.

One of the awards, the Partnership with the NHS Award, is being sponsored by the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN), in recognition of the impact that the medical and healthcare sector has in the West Midlands on driving up economic prosperity, as well as on improving health.

Tony Davis, Commercial Director of the WMAHSN, said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring a Medical and Healthcare Business Award which celebrates partnership working between the healthcare technology sector and the NHS. Over the past year, we have worked very closely with Medilink West Midlands, alongside some of the region’s most innovative and successful medical and healthcare companies. In doing so, we have not only helped these companies to foster growth and drive expansion, leading to jobs creation for the area, but also helped the adoption and spread of innovative products and services for NHS patients.”

The other awards will laud successes in innovation, export achievement, start-up businesses and outstanding achievement, with a wide range of companies, large and small, up for the gongs.

Joanne Mewis, Services and Membership Manager at Medilink West Midlands, said: “The standard of entries we have received for our awards this year has been extremely high. The successes of our shortlisted companies – and of course our winners – should give great confidence about the strength of the healthcare technologies sector in the region. The presentation of the awards at our dinner will provide the perfect backdrop to this special event”.

The regional winners of the five awards will then be put forward for consideration for the national Medilink UK Awards, which take place at the MedTech Innovation Expo, Ricoh Arena, Coventry, in April this year.
