Shortlist announced for Meridian Celebration of Innovation Awards

The shortlist has been announced for our fifth annual Meridian Celebration of Innovation Awards, celebrating healthcare innovation in the West Midlands.

Since its launch in 2015, the programme has been celebrating individuals and organisations that are revolutionising healthcare across the region with new ideas, technologies, and initiatives.

This year, shortlisted entries have been selected for continuously driving positive changes to patient care and the region’s healthcare economy, in spite of the challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.


The shortlist for each category is:

Above and Beyond’ Adoption of Innovation

  • Implementation of the PIGF test at UHCW to rule out pre-eclampsia
  • SaTH NHS Trust NELA team
  • Claire – From Air Steward to Well Being Zone Lead

Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Management Innovation

  • Integrating Heart Flow computed tomography fraction flow reserve (FFRct) into a chest pain service
  • Impulse AF: Improving outcomes for AF patients in the West Midlands
  • Identify and appropriately use digital technology to monitor and manage patients with hypertension

Driving Digital Transformation Innovation

  • Dignio Connected Care: Oximetry at Home with Dudley CCG & HIWM
  • SnoRelief

Medicines Optimisation and Management Innovation

  • A self-care game to change patient and prescriber behaviour to reduce costs and save GP time
  • A collaborative stakeholder approach to the development of a streamlined medication ordering process

Mental Health Resilience Innovation

  • 24/7 Patient Access Platform for remote monitoring and management of chronic patients by their GP
  • UHB Coronavirus: Your health and well-being

  • FREED Pathway: Recognising Frailty, End of Life and Deterioration within Care Home Residents

Workforce Innovation

  • Hexitime: the national skill exchange for improving health and care services

  • George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust Mentoring and Pastoral Service

The winners will be announced during a free virtual ceremony, which will take place on Tuesday 30 March 2021. Guests are welcome to join the digital celebrations by registering on Eventbrite here.

We received so many fantastic entries and are humbled by the work that has been taking place within the region, in what has been a very challenging year.

“The awards ceremony may be virtual this year, but we are still looking forward to celebrating the successes of those seeking to address challenges and offer tangible solutions to make our industry better and improve patient care.”

Meridian Innovation Exchange is a platform open to any individuals or organisations to find healthcare innovations, share ideas, build groups, and grow networks to collaborate and improve healthcare provision across the West Midlands.

The platform helps users showcase their ideas, spread good practice, and bring about change with collaborators from across sectors.
