An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior Pharmacist to join the Board of UHS Pharmacy Limited as a non-executive director. UHS Pharmacy Limited is an independent subsidiary of Southampton General Hospital and provides outpatient pharmacy services.

Blakelock Developments are currently supporting the Board of Directors of a Southampton-based pharmacy (established as an independent subsidiary of a local NHS FT) specialising in the provision of outpatient pharmacy services. The Board is about to commence a recruitment search for a senior Pharmacist to join the Board of Directors as a non-executive director. The Pharmacy is extremely demanding, dispensing on average 11,000 items from more than 5,000 prescriptions each month. The closing date for applications is 30 June.

THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior Pharmacist to join the Board of UHS Pharmacy Limited as a non-executive director. UHS Pharmacy Limited is an independent subsidiary of Southampton General Hospital and provides outpatient pharmacy services.

You will bring Board-level stewardship to support the step change in how we improve all aspects of the patient journey alongside the quality of the services offered. We would like a leader who shares our passion for first class patient services and is committed to increasing our impact with the NHS Trust that we serve.

This will be a highly rewarding role requiring a time commitment of 18 days per year for an initial period of two years. Meetings will be held either virtually or in Southampton.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a registered Pharmacist who has a track record in providing successful patient or clinical outcomes alongside substantial executive experience.

We are looking for a leader who is aligned to our commitment of continuous improvement whilst improving the patient experience; with a focus on clinical governance and patient safety. You must be collaborative, self-assured and able to work effectively with a board comprised of clinicians, business people and wider NHS stakeholders. You will be adept at understanding customer/patient needs then translating these into strategic development and action and ideally will have held a board level role.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

You will bring an external perspective to the work of the Board, based on professional expertise, experience and independent judgment to improve overall effectiveness. The role will also include an element of mentoring of the next wave of clinical Executive Directors.

Annual meeting requirements comprise of

-   Four formal Board meetings per year

-   Four informal ‘deep dive’ meetings of the Board of Directors

-   Maximum two Remuneration Committee meetings per year

-   One Annual General Meeting with the Shareholder

UHS Pharmacy Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of University Hospital Southampton (UHS) NHS Foundation Trust. The Company was established in 2012 to provide greater efficiency in the delivery of outpatient pharmacy services and improve the patient experience.

We use the latest technology to deliver our services as efficiently as possible. As well as the dispensing of outpatient prescriptions, we offer over-the-counter medicines and retail products to visitors and staff of the hospital. The Pharmacy is extremely demanding, dispensing on average 11,000 items from more than 5,000 prescriptions each month. Our team of 20 are passionate about providing excellent customer services from a purpose-built pharmacy located within the main hospital building.

We cater for patients with complex needs and have an unrelenting focus on improving their experience with us. Given our expertise and in the context of regional collaboration across Hampshire and Dorset, we are considering the potential for expansion, both within our home Trust and across other hospital settings.

This is an exciting time to join the Board, as our new Chair has initiated work to reframe the medium and long term strategies and aspirations of the company. This will cement the foundations of the business and provide a sustainable platform from which we can drive growth, innovation and efficiency.
