Congratulations to the 20 organisations who have been shortlisted for this year’s Meridian Awards, celebrating the ground-breaking innovations in health and life sciences that have been developed within our region.

With more than 30 submissions received, the panel met last week to review and determine the winners for each of the five categories, as well as highly commended and ones to watch.

The awards are organised by West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN) and the winners will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday 18th July at the Park Regis Birmingham.

Applications were open to entries from healthcare, industry, academia and the not-for-profit sector, covering a range of categories from patient safety to adoption.

As well as a trophy, winners will receive promotion of their win through print and digital channels, support from the WMAHSN communications team to raise their profile, mentoring and support to adopt the innovation across the region and a winner’s logo for email signatures and websites. Those shortlisted for the MidTECH Award will have a chance of receiving a share of a £10,000 prize fund which will be decided by our expert panel.

“Every year we see the quality of submissions grow,” said Tammy Holmes who headed up the expert judging panel. “Every one of our shortlisted candidates was chosen because they are addressing a real challenge in healthcare and offering tangible solutions to the sorts of issues facing professionals, patients and carers every day.

“I’d like to thank all our applicants and wish all shortlisted innovators the best of luck for the ceremony in July.”

Once again, this year’s awards celebrate the Meridian Innovation Health Exchange, the WMAHSN’s pioneering interactive online exchange for anyone to share their innovations and ideas, build groups and networks and make contact with people whose innovations could change healthcare in the West Midlands. The platform helps innovators showcase their innovations and allows industry, social enterprises and academic institutions to collaborate with the NHS and industry on innovation challenges.
