New report maps the MedTech landscape for innovators in England

The NHS spends approximately £6 billion a year on medical technology, also known as MedTech, such as medical devices, equipment and digital tools. It is an industry that accounts for over 86,000 jobs in the UK, almost a third of which are within small companies, and supports an additional 24,600 service and supply roles.

Supported by the West Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative, Wolverhampton Clinical Commissioning Group (WCCG) and Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group (WCCG) launched the first of many deterioration study days on 14 February at Wolverhampton Science Park. The event brought together a collaboration of expert presenters with the aim of the day to deliver best practice and excellent learning for recognising and managing deterioration.

Healthcare staff from the Midlands region are being encouraged to use Appreciative Inquiry (AI) in their workplace after attending a two-day AI training course at Woodbrooke Centre, Birmingham last month. The purpose of the two-day course (presented Professor Belinda Dewar and Fiona Cook from My Home Life, supported by Suzanne Quinney of Appreciating People and the West Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative) was to bring the excellent practice and wide range of tools of My Home Life to a wider audience

An awards ceremony to celebrate the region’s most innovative and successful medical and healthcare companies was held last week at the Birmingham Conference and Events Centre. The Annual Medilink West Midlands Medical and Healthcare Business Awards, which has been running for over 10 years, took place on 7 February with one of the awards being sponsored by the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network.

New leadership team set to deliver healthcare innovation  in West Midlands

The West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN) has announced the formation of a new and innovative leadership team with the appointment of four strategic roles. The leadership team and the WMAHSN’s new operational structure reflect the priorities of the new five-year licence period for the WMAHSN, which was approved by NHS England last year as part of a ten-year vision to drive health innovation and stimulate economic growth.
