Life sciences and healthcare companies from around the West Midlands took home a clutch of prizes at the 2016 Medilink UK Awards recently.
Held at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena as part of the Med-Tech Innovation Expo on 20 April, the Medilink UK Awards celebrate the pinnacle of new technologies, outstanding business achievements and international success across the sector throughout the past year.
Digital Life Sciences, from Birmingham, lifted the Partnership with the NHS Award, which celebrates the work companies and organisations do to build collaborative partnerships with NHS departments and organisations. Digital Life Sciences works closely with clients within the healthcare sector to understand and deliver the breakthrough value offered by digital products and services.
Another Birmingham-based company, NutraHealth Plc, won the Outstanding Achievement Award, which showcases the achievements of companies which have managed to develop and grow their company either through the strategic implementation of a product or service, a review of manufacturing and development processes or collaborative agreements. NutraHealth, who received The Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade in 2015, were recognised for the successful delivery of a carefully considered business plan which has showcased and extended their UK vitamin and supplement manufacturing and branded businesses to customers and consumers globally.
The runners up in the Export Award category were Kimal Plc, from Bromsgrove, who are an innovative developer, manufacturer and supplier of customised procedure packs and vascular access devices. In addition, the Innovation Award was sponsored by The BioHub Birmingham, to acknowledge the achievements of companies that have developed an innovative product or service that will have a significant impact upon patient care or cost and time savings.
The nominated organisations comprised the winners of regional awards held throughout the past year across the UK, selected by panels from Medilink UK member organisations.
Richard Stone, CEO at Medilink West Midlands, said: “The Medilink UK Awards provide a great way to celebrate the achievements of UK companies who are at the forefront of patient care and innovation – and are an excellent showcase of the strength and diversity of the UK’s life science sector.
“I would like to extend a massive congratulations to all of the winners and finalists, whose relentless drive and resultant achievements are both hugely inspirational and very encouraging for our industry in the years ahead.
“I am, obviously, particularly pleased to be able to say a huge well done to the West Midlands companies honoured at the awards. It is well-deserved recognition for their outstanding achievements and a testament to the region’s significant contributions to the UK’s healthcare industry and overall economic prosperity.”
Paul Sinha, the star of ITV quiz show The Chase, compered the awards, drawing from his experience as both a GP and stand-up comedian to ensure the ceremony was a success.
