Walsall SPACE Quality Improvement Conference

A one-day conference to be run in partnership with the West Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative, will be held in March focusing on the SPACE project.

The conference, to be held at The Village Hotel, Walsall, on 13 March from 9am – 4pm will enable attendees to:

  • Discover how nursing homes in the Walsall Borough have been applying Quality Improvement (QI) tools and techniques in everyday practice to improve quality of care for nursing home residents
  • Learn how QI methods have impacted on reducing avoidable harm and improving safety culture in nursing homes
  • Hear how front line staff and managers have developed innovative solutions to improve quality in a challenged system
  • Question the speakers and care home staff about their journey through SPACE

Confirmed speakers include: Sally Roberts, Chief Nurse for Wolverhampton Clinical Commissioning Group and Black Country Regional Strategic Transformation Plan Lead Nurse, Caroline Maries-Tillott SPACE Quality Improvement Lead for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, Sarah Damery CLARHC Research Fellow and Isabelle Latham, Senior Lecturer at the Association for Dementia Studies, Dr Zoe Wyrko, Director of Workforce for the BGS and Dr Dawn Moody, Associate National Clinical Director for Older People and Integrated Person-Centred Care for NHS England.

In recognition of the improvements in quality, safety and culture in Walsall Nursing Homes, Walsall CCG and Walsall Healthcare Trust would like to recognise and reward staff and managers for their contributions. Awards for the following categories will be presented at the SPACE conference on 13 March:

  • Most Improved Care Home
  • Most Innovative Improvement (Environment and Clinical Care)
  • Most Improved Safety Culture
  • Care Home Manager of the Year
