WMAHSN Economic Summit 2017

5 December 2017 The Birmingham Conference and Events Centre, Hill Street, Birmingham B5 4EW

Join the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN) at their fourth annual Economic Summit, to be held on Tuesday 5 December from 9am – 4pm at the Birmingham Conference and Events Centre.

The summit will focus on the life sciences industry within the West Midlands, and the opportunities this affords not just in improving the health of the local population, but as a key driver of economic growth. The potential of the sector has been recognised as a pillar of economic progress by the now-established West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), which has life sciences firmly on its agenda. With the challenges and opportunities presented by the region’s six Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) - which bring together the NHS and local councils to improve health and care based on the needs of the whole population in each area – combined with the West Midlands’ enviable strengths in digital health, these are exciting times for the local life sciences economy.

The event will have three overarching themes:

1. Digital health - How the rapid introduction of innovation in digital health will benefit both companies and citizens, creating more jobs in the health and life sciences fields and focusing on the economic future of the West Midlands

2. West Midlands Combined Authority - How the life sciences industry will act as a dynamo for economic growth in the West Midlands, with precision medicine, personalised healthcare and digital tools acting as drivers of wealth creation, as well as improving healthcare

3. Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) - How the region’s six STPs will organise both clinically and economically to drive sustainable transformation in patient experience and health outcomes in the long-term.

This free to attend event will:

  • Address the opportunities available to healthcare and life sciences organisations and businesses within the West Midlands, in light of the recent economic developments
  • Investigate some of the challenges facing the sector, and how you can overcome them to prosper
  • How life sciences can drive integration, prevention, wellness and productivity
  • Discuss the outcomes of the WMAHSN’s seven point economic growth plan and metrics
  • How driving co-operation and productivity between NHS, academia, business, commissioners, care providers and the third sector, and accelerating adoption of innovation, can improve healthcare and the health and employability of the local population also helps to regenerate and restore wider, regional economic productivity.

By attending this event, delegates will:

  • Gain a greater understanding of the importance of economic impact in the healthcare sector
