Infection: Prevention, Control and Management for Primary Care Pharmacists

20 September 2017 West Midlands, venue TBC

A free training event aimed at pharmacists based in primary care. This study day will provide you with an insight into some of the key mechanisms for preventing and managing infection in primary care. This will include gaining a greater awareness of the GP delivered components of the national vaccination programme and the potential reduction in respiratory tract infections and antibiotic use through increased uptake of pneumococcal and influenza vaccination.

Four expert speakers will cover the following:

  • GP vaccination programmes and their impact at population level
  • Infection control – the challenges for practices and impact on HCAI
  • Antimicrobial stewardship - the 2017-19 quality premium
  • Effective management of HCAI.

You will also gain an increased understanding of infection control requirements in both the GP practice and the care home environment. Antimicrobial stewardship sessions will focus on the current ‘Quality Premium’ which aims to reduce the incidence of gram negative sepsis through better management of UTIs, the appropriate management of C difficile infection and eradication of MRSA carriage in primary care.

Throughout the day we will place emphasis and discussion on the contribution of the practice pharmacist.
