Where did it all go so right? Learning from excellence for quality improvement

28 November 2016 Sixways Stadium, Warriors Way, Hindlip, Worcester WR3 8ZE

Safety in healthcare has traditionally focused on avoiding harm by learning from error, but this approach may miss opportunities to learn from excellent practice. We tend to regard excellence as something to gratefully accept, rather than something to study and understand. Our preoccupation with avoiding error and harm in healthcare has resulted in the rise of rules and rigidity, which in turn has cultivated a culture of fear and stifled innovation. It is time to redress the balance. Studying excellence in healthcare can create new opportunities for learning and improving resilience and staff morale.

This free event is open to frontline healthcare staff from any discipline. Come and hear about the experience of implementing learning from excellence (LFE) from teams who have used the technique in their clinical areas. At this event you will be able to:

  • Learn about LFE as a method of quality improvement
  • Understand the techniques behind LFE and gain insight into how to approach implementing LFE in your area
  • Hear about the impact of LFE on patients and staff
  • Have a chance to network with colleagues from other organisations and share experiences of excellence in practice.

This event is approved by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for 1.5 CPD credits. To book your place, go to Eventbrite

This event will be one of a number of LFE events run by the West Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative across the West Midlands region, followed by an opportunity later in the year to access further training around the appreciative inquiry techniques underpinning LFE. We hope to build a wider community of practice around LFE who can support and share insights and experience and peer to peer learning.
