West Midlands Mental Health Innovation Network event - prevention

15 November 2016 Woodland Grange, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire CV32 6RN

The fourth network event in the West Midlands Mental Health Innovation Network (WMMHIN) 2016/17 programme, to be held in partnership with Public Health England (PHE), will address the prevention of mental ill-health and distress.

Prevention is a key priority for NHS England and featured heavily in the Five Year Forward View for Mental Health which states that one of the eight principles to underpin reform is that prevention and early intervention must be prioritised.

This WMMHIN event aims to prompt discussion and actions around the topic of prevention of severe and enduring mental illness, and emerging themes from evidence bases, as well as current and potential pertinent innovations.

The confirmed speakers include:

  • Dr Geraldine Strathdee CBE OBE MRCPsych, National Clinical Lead, Mental Health Intelligence Network and Past National Clinical Director Mental Health, NHS England
  • Professor Max Birchwood, Professor of Youth Mental Health, Warwick Medical School
  • Dr Paul Patterson, Digital Engagement and Public Health Lead for Forward Thinking Birmingham
  • Dr Lola Abudu, Deputy Director for Health and Wellbeing at PHE West Midlands.

Following on from the presentations attendees will be invited to participate in interactive workshops on one of a number of the prevention-themed topics. There will also be a further opportunity for networking and refreshments at the end of the event.

A light finger buffet will be served at the start of the event giving attendees a chance for lunch and networking during registration. Refreshments will be available throughout the day. Woodland Grange is fully accessible to all and there is disabled parking on site.
