The future for the Catapult Network - scale, scope and putting policy into practice
22 March 2016 ∙ Glaziers Hall, 9 Montague Close, London SE1 9DD
This event will consider the creation and expansion of Catapult Centres - government-supported centres designed to provide space for university-business collaboration on commercialisation in a specific field of cutting-edge technology. ‘Precision Medicine’ and ‘Cell Therapy’ are two of the nine areas for which a Catapult Centre has been established.
Key discussion points:
- Building on successes and learning lessons from the initial Catapult Centres, including attracting additional investment and improving engagement with SMEs
- Delivering the proposed expansion of one to two centres a year to achieve 30 by 2030: funding, engaging more businesses and universities and creating a framework for identifying priority areas - both in terms of geography and focus
- Potential expansion of the scope of Catapult Centres: including a possible role in skills development for the particular sectors of focus, acting in an advisory capacity to government on wider barriers to innovation and building links with the investment community.
